Headline for Anaheim and some other American cities next year.

Or maybe it's different people complaining about each problem. Does OP really think that in a city of 1.6 million people, everybody has the same opinion about everything? Or anything?

Tourism just means fossil carbon poison is being spewed into the Gaiasphere. Unless they are eighth level vegans and they walked there while photosynthesizing their energy.
Problem solved. Save the Gaiasphere by having a staycation.

Same story in virtually every tourist attraction, repeated over and over again:
1. I can't stand the tourists clogging transport, making it hard to visit the museum on a quiet day, being asses, making a mess, and driving up prices.
2. I like nice roads, museums, and potentially a job that only has value supporting part of a tourist attraction.
3. But fark they're a pain in the ad nauseum.

It was about locals getting priced out of housing and shelter. That will be solved when it becomes normal to move the poor and minorities to Somalia, thanks to the pioneering work of the governments of Israel and the US.

Texas tourists are annoying, but as long as they remain tourists, I can just be annoyed at them (and enjoy the quiet evenings when they go back to Texas or go to hotel rooms). It's when they buy houses here that they become actual problems.

Using numbers from the article, 4.5 million tourists stayed overnight in Barcelona in 2004. 15.5 million tourists stayed overnight in Barcelona in 2024. The news articles may sound the same, but the real story on the ground is very different.

Subby's headline sounds like current GOP gotcha whining. There's no indication that tourists are shying away from visiting Spain or its cities. As the article notes, it's not tourist season yet. And every tourist board's job is to reimagine how to represent its region as perceptions and offerings change. Can something be done locally to limit residents from being overwhelmed or priced out of their neighborhoods? Possibly. Is there a healthy balance between tourism and residents? There can be. It's the age old question since tourism became thing. We limit entry into national parks so as not to damage the beauty of the landscape not disrupt the delicate ecology of the environment. Townies vs. tourists. Wasn't that the underlying cautionary tale of "Jaws"? That the mayor overlooked the clear danger to everyone at the expense of making money? Again, this is right-wing gaslighting. Not interested in solutions to real concerns, always playing a game of gotcha to inculcate the ideology that bigger profits take precedence at everyone else's expense.

Yeah, this was the problem in my quaint little mountain "village" with the "noisy river" in my part of our state. I'm sure that's enough clues for you to know which one I'm talking about. They loved to buy cabins up there and wield considerable political influence over local matters. One time the town had a plan to build a rec center to give the local teens something to do besides getting drunk in the forest and wrapping their cars around some pine trees. Whole thing would be paid for by grants -- no raise in property taxes -- as had been mandated by the outside cabin owners. Even then, they still wielded influence to kill it because "it might spoil the view."
But again, without the tourists the whole town would dry up and blow away. I mean, it's still doing that with all the fires, but that's mostly a climate change deal.

Local companies do like tourist.
Hum? Sounds like those companies don't employee enough locals and probably live out of town? Typical fark head business owners.

The people in charge and who own businesses aren't locals. Or don't give a fark about their neighbors?
This isn't complicated.
This is no different than anything else.
The masses get farked by a small percentage of money and or power people, because money is more important than your neighbors.

And didn't spring break City in Florida crack down ? Haven't heard them cry. Apparently the only people that cared were the bars and motels.

I live just outside Barcelona, close enough to be on the same metro service. Whilst tourism obviously helps, Barcelona in no way relies upon it. The issue, as noted, is that tourism affects accommodation for inhabitants. Airbnb will no longer be allowed (by 2026 I believe) for complete flats, only room within a domicile. At the moment living in the centre is impossible for people who work here.

That's just British tradition. They don't have their empire anymore, but they can still travel the globe and abuse the natives.

I travel often but I hate places packed with tourists. Seeing David or the Mona Lisa or the Blarney stone or whatever could be fun but I prefer to visit places and cultures. I enjoy staying on the fringes and eating with the locals. I spend hours in museums and talk to the docents.
Otherwise, a beach is a beach, a zip line is a zip line.

That's how it works in Florida. Instead of a discount. We pay the advertised shot for car rentals, hotels, attractions etc.. if you are out of state or country, you get slapped with a pretty heavy tax.
