Pakistan’s batting coach, Mohammad Yousuf, will not be a part of the side’s upcoming tour of New Zealand due to the illness of his daughter.
The former Pakistan captain, appointed as the batting coach for the tour, has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of his withdrawal, as mentioned in a report by the Press Trust of India. The PCB mentioned that there would be no replacement and that the team would head off to New Zealand on Wednesday.
He was appointed as the batting coach for the five-match T20I series, followed by the three-match ODI series as well. The Men in Green will be keen on redeeming themselves after the horrendous campaign in the recently-concluded Champions Trophy, where the Rizwan-led side went out without a win.
Interestingly, Yousuf was the only addition to Pakistan’s coaching setup. The side opted to retain Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach and Azhar Mahmood as the assistant coach for the tour.
Regarding the vacant Head Coach role, the PCB clarified that they would advertise for the post following the New Zealand tour.
Yousuf works as a senior coach at the PCB’s National Cricket Academy.
Pakistan’s recent form has been a cause for concern in recent times. The side was unable to make the most of playing in home conditions in the Champions Trophy. In addition, the side suffered a crushing defeat to rivals India as well. Their disappointing campaign saw criticism from many former players as well, calling for major changes to the side.
Interestingly, several big name stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were not included in the T20I setup, meaning that the captaincy was given to Salman Ali Agha, with the returning Shadab Khan as his deputy.
Pakistan’s T20I Squad for New Zealand Tour: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Hasan Nawaz, Jahandad Khan, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Haris, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Omair Bin Yousaf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufyan Moqim and Usman Khan
