'Battle of the Fins': Solar-powered cars begin race through Australian outback

Racing teams from around the world set off from Darwin on Sunday (August 24), embarking on a 3,000-kilometre (1,864-mile) journey through the Australian outback in solar-powered electric vehicles as part of the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Darwin city, in Australia's Northern Territory, was abuzz with excitement as spectators thronged the starting line to witness the race begin. The finish line is in Adelaide, South Australia. The event is one of the most prestigious solar car races in the world, challenging teams to engineer innovative and sustainable climate change solutions in the automobile industry.
