Bauchi: Police record 394 cases leading to arrest of 748 suspects in six months

The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded over 394 cases, leading to the arrest of 748 suspects linked to various criminal activities within and beyond the state in the last six months under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner during a press conference on Thursday at the Command Headquarters to mark his six months in office.
While giving a summary of the major achievements, he noted that 57 cases of armed robbery were recorded, resulting in the arrest of 113 suspects. For culpable homicide, 78 cases were recorded with 171 suspects apprehended.
In cases of attempted culpable homicide, 14 incidents were recorded, leading to the arrest of 24 suspects, while seven cases of grievous harm led to the arrest of 16 suspects.
He further revealed that 44 cases of rape and indecent assault were recorded, with 72 suspects arrested. Four cases of kidnapping were also recorded, resulting in the apprehension of seven suspects.
The CP added that 20 cases of theft and other forms of stealing were recorded, leading to the arrest of 37 suspects. In addition, 117 cases of false pretence and cheating resulted in the arrest of 106 suspects.
According to him, two cases of mischief by fire were recorded, with three suspects arrested, while two cases of currency note forgery led to the arrest of two suspects.
For breach of public peace, nine cases were recorded with 29 suspects apprehended, while two cases of unnatural offences led to the arrest of two suspects.
In other criminal cases, 30 incidents involving 54 suspects were recorded. Of these, 20 cases were charged to court, 10 remain under investigation, while six cases were successfully prosecuted, leading to the conviction of 10 suspects.
The Commissioner also highlighted notable cases, including one of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery on 12 July 2025 at about 09:15 hours. One Abdulkadir Garba, a 35-year-old man residing at DP 21, behind the Federal Secretariat, Bauchi, reported to B’ Division Police Headquarters that at about 02:00 hours the same day, four unidentified armed men invaded his residence and robbed him of valuables.
The stolen items included one Samsung S23 smartphone valued at ₦1.2 million, one iPhone 14 Pro Max valued at ₦1.4 million, one Tecno smartphone valued at ₦380,000, and one HP Spectre 360 laptop valued at ₦1.2 million. The victim was also coerced into transferring ₦3.3 million into the suspects’ Moniepoint account.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives from B’ Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Holman Simon, commenced investigations. Preliminary findings led to the arrest of the following suspects:

Saifullah Muhammad (25), Kandahar, Bauchi
During the investigation, a Macrov pistol with 15 rounds of 9mm live ammunition was recovered.
In another development, on 21 August 2025 at about 16:10 hours, detectives attached to the Safer Highway Unit conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Bauchi-Jos Road. They intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla LE with registration number KUJ-576, driven by Salisu Ibrahim, a 35-year-old man from Makurdi, Benue State.
Upon interrogation, the suspect failed to provide a satisfactory account of his identity and the vehicle’s ownership. Investigations revealed he specialized in automobile theft. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from Rivers State and was being transported to Adamawa State for disposal. He is also linked to previous thefts, including that of a Mercedes-Benz. He will be profiled and charged in court for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
On the same day at about 14:00 hours, detectives from Jama’are Division, led by DPO SP Maina Yusuf, apprehended Stanley Lukman, a 44-year-old dismissed Army personnel from Awka, Anambra State. He was caught driving a Volkswagen Vento without a number plate, claiming to have bought it from the Niger Republic.
His arrest followed the recovery of a stolen Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen Golf from Umar Aliyu, who alleged that he acquired them from Lukman. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the vehicles after luring a temporary driver, Mu’azu Yunusa of Yobe State, and absconding with the car en route to Jos, Plateau State. Investigations are ongoing.

According to the Commissioner:
“This gathering reaffirms our shared commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents of Bauchi State. Since my assumption of duty as the 46th Commissioner of Police, the Bauchi State Police Command has remained steadfast in addressing crime and criminality within the state.”
“The Command has executed its responsibilities with professionalism, placing strong emphasis on effective intelligence gathering, which has led to significant advancements in our policing efforts.”
While noting that the period under review presented considerable challenges, the Commissioner commended the dedication of his officers in sustaining relative peace in the state.
He concluded:
“In our persistent fight against crime and criminality in Bauchi State, the Command has vigorously pursued its mandate and recorded commendable progress. These achievements reflect the guidance and directives of the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.”
