BBC Blankety Blank bosses share sad tribute as contestant dies after filming

The bosses of Blankety Blank payed tribute to a contestant it was revealed had died after filming the show on Saturday night. Nathanael Hill made it all the way to the end of the BBC episode, winning the iconic Blankety Blank cheque book and pen. Read more Blankety Blank player instantly recognised as TV star as they share health woe The 39 year old, from Liverpool, had an impressive career as an armour officer in the air force, completing six tours of Iraq and four tours of Afghanistan. During a stint in south-central Asia, he got injured by shrapnel from a roadside bomb and was medically discharged and struggled with PTSD, Liverpool Echo previously reported. He was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and had his leg amputated in 2022 after fighting three bouts of sepsis and being resuscitated twice. Following his career in the Air Force, he went on to become a PHD neuroscience student as well as a rugby coach for LGBT Liverpool Tritons rugby team. Nathanael explained on the BBC show: "My research is on chronic pain and how to cure it without using opioids." In a tribute to Nathanael, the show aired a picture of him riding a horse in a cowboy hat with the words: "1985 - 2025." Following the news of his death in April, Liverpool Tritons RUFC shared a touching tribute to the coach. It read: "It is with deep sadness that Liverpool Tritons RUFC announces the passing of our dear friend, former player, and coach, Nathanael Hill – known to many simply as Nate. "Nate was a cherished member of the Tritons for several years. "As both a formidable player on the pitch and a passionate, dedicated coach off it, Nate brought skill, heart, and a contagious enthusiasm to everything he did. "His commitment to inclusive rugby and to our community helped shape the club into what it is today. "More than his achievements in the game, Nate will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humour, and the unwavering support he showed to teammates, new players, and friends alike. "His loss will be felt deeply across the club and far beyond. "Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Nate’s family, loved ones, and all those whose lives he touched. "He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Nate."
