BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt accuses co-stars of 'mocking' him over 'strange' image spot

BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt caused an awkward moment live on air when he spotted an "unusual" image in the weather background photograph that none of his fellow cast and crew members could see. This Saturday morning, March 15, saw Charlie team up with Sarah Campbell on the classic red sofa, talking about the latest news from around the world. However, at around 9am, Charlie, who's been a stalwart on the morning program since 2006, remarked that there seemed to be some fun being poked at his expense. The pair had just finished a segment about space travellers Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams making their return to Earth after an extended orbit since June, to which Sarah had wished, "Good luck to them. “It’s going to be strange for them to be back on planet Earth.” Charlie then moved his attention to weatherman Matt Taylor who had a beautiful snowy backdrop behind him which was taken in northeast Scotland around Moray. But for Charlie, it wasn't the scenic beauty that caught his eye; he said: "Other strange things happen Matt [Taylor], including, just to your left shoulder, they've been mocking me here, because I can see a dog." Amidst Sarah's giggles and Matt's puzzled look, Charlie elaborated: "A little dog in the snow. Not a little dog but in the promontory that sticks out." He pointed out the 'dog's' ears, nose, and legs as they appeared in the snowy formation. When Matt gestured to part of the image, asking, "That bit there?" Charlie excitedly exclaimed: "Yeah that's it there! It looks exactly like a dog, doesn't it?" Matt hesitated, still studying the image, before responding: "I can kind of see it." Charlie's enthusiasm quickly deflated as he stated: "He can't see it, can he? He's pretending now," with Matt chuckling and denying it. Sarah then intervened, urging: "Just move on. Give us the weather," prompting Matt to return to delivering the forecast for the upcoming days. Charlie typically presents alongside Naga Munchetty, who hosts BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday, but her absence remains unexplained. BBC Breakfast continues every day at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
