@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
The celebrity cast for the popular BBC series The Traitors has been announced, with filming already underway. Claudia Winkleman is set to return as host as a series of famous faces are preparing to enter the grand Scottish castle including comedians Bob Mortimer and Alan Carr, as well as former child star Charlotte Church. An insider told the Mirror : "There will be a huge mix of personalities - and ego sizes. Seeing how it all works out is going to be fascinating. The team making the show are expecting it to be quite different to the regular version because the celebrities will be less motivated by the prize fund but care far more about how they come across." They added: "It will be really interesting to see how the gameplay compares, along with which tactics they employ. Hopefully one thing that will remain the same is that it will be a lot of fun to watch." Lets take a closer look at the celebrity line up. Singer Charlotte Church is among those braving the storied Scottish castle. Despite once claiming she didn't want to capitalise on her fame for financial gain, Charlotte appears ready for another stint in the spotlight as she joins the show. Earlier this year, Charlotte opened up about her journey towards inner harmony and reigniting her artistic spark after her time in the limelight as a young celebrity. Reflecting on her early stardom, she expressed: "I think that when you get commoditised as such a young person, you know, my own creativity and artistry wasn't really centred at all and so it was actually through setting up other things like The Dreaming [her retreat centre] that I really started to reclaim my own creativity." Bob Mortimer, the much-loved comedian who recently graced our screens on Last One Laughing, is set to join the upcoming series, The Mirror confirmed weeks earlier. Following his heart surgery in 2015, Bob revealed in 2023 that he no longer lives in fear of death. His outlook shifted as he shared: "I don't feel scared about death, I just feel so frustrated and sad to think I won't see how stories end. My children's story. My wife's. The football. All the stories going on in the world that you're going to miss the end of." Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway will also be venturing into the new series. Sadly, Kate lost her husband Derek Draper the previous year. As she navigates life as a single parent to her children, Darcey and Billy, Kate has been candid about her challenges. She earlier disclosed: "This is the hardest part of grieving. There are so many moments where I just think, 'Derek, where are you?'" The Scottish castle will be welcoming fellow comedian Alan Carr, as reported by The Mirror. He's set to join the show alongside five other celebrities including Bob, another comic. Earlier this year, Alan revealed a health scare that had him "so worried". He explained: "I've got astigmatism - I kept telling people I had stigmata, like the wounds of Christ. "Get over yourself, Alan. I had a bit of a health scare. I went to Moorfields [Eye Hospital, London]. I've got something wrong with my eyes - quite a bit of pressure. "I hate the glaucoma thing, when they squirt the air in your eyes. I had something wrong with my eyes in the cornea. I was so worried." TV presenter and star of The Masked Singer, Jonathan Ross, is also making his way to the castle. Known across the UK for his chat show where he's interviewed numerous global celebrities. In addition to The Traitors, Jonathan has signed up for a new series titled Haunted Homecoming, which will document his return to his childhood home where he once experienced a paranormal event in his parents' cellar. Rugby legend Joe Marler is also on board for the new series. He's known for his time with the Premiership club Harlequins and a stint with the England team, before hanging up his boots in November 2024. Last year, Joe announced his retirement from professional sports with a heartfelt message, stating: "Playing for England always felt like I was living in a dream bubble. "I kept waiting for it to pop and me to suddenly go back to being a gobby, overweight 16-year-old again. But you know when it's time. I can't do what I used to do as well as I once could. "I can't keep talking about my family being my priority unless they actually are. I want to keep untarnished all these memories of my career, both good and bad. I don't want to leave my house with my kids crying. I'm ready to make the change." Stephen Fry, the British icon and QI stalwart, is set to grace the show, with filming kicking off today. Insiders have revealed that Stephen leapt at the opportunity to be part of the show, having been a covert admirer of the BBC hit. Only a month ago, Stephen playfully hinted at his participation on the programme during an appearance on This Morning. Feigning ignorance, he quipped: "It's a BBC show, isn't it? It's an interesting show. Do you think they're going to do a celebrity version?" When Ben probed: "Would you be interested in doing a show like that," Stephen responded: "Let me see how good I am at lying." Nick Mohammed, the British actor known for his role as Nathan 'Nate' Shelley in Ted Lasso, has joined the new series. Nick, who also boasts comedic talents, is sure to bring laughter to his fellow participants in the castle. Nick previously revealed that his role on Ted Lasso could have "easily not happened". He shared: "I'd only seen the pilot script of Ted Lasso at that point and didn't know what the rest of the show might have in store. "But then they called and said, 'Look, this is where the character's going to go' and I realised it was definitely something I wanted to be involved in. But it could easily not have happened." Olympic diving hero Tom may have hung up his trunks after his triumph at the 2024 Olympics. Despite rejecting numerous reality shows, Tom has put pen to paper for the new series of Celebrity Traitors. Historian and broadcaster David is no stranger to award-winning programmes. He's a BAFTA-winning filmmaker who also presents historical documentaries for the BBC, as well as making appearances on shows like The One Show. YouTube star Niko is one of the celebrities heading into the castle. Sure to be a hit with younger viewers, Niko - known for his hilarious online pranks - is also part of one of YouTube's most influential groups, The Sidemen. Line of Duty star and acting heavyweight Mark Bonnar will be entering the castle. He portrayed DCC Mike Dryden in the popular BBC series - rumoured to be returning soon - and will also be recognised by viewers for his role in Shetland. Another funnyman is joining the mix - Joe has been confirmed for the new series. He's graced our screens on popular programmes like Have I Got News For You and 8 Out of 10 Cats, to mention a few. The renowned sports presenter and national treasure Clare has agreed to participate in the brand new series. Despite repeatedly declining reality TV offers in the past, she's now signed up for the celebrity edition of The Traitors. Following her break up with Jon Richardson, Lucy has also joined the new series. The comedian has featured in numerous shows with her former spouse, including their programme Meet the Richardsons and Jon and Lucy's Odd Couples. Chart-topping singer Paloma is set to enter the castle, reportedly hoping to reveal a different side of herself. She's recently spoken out about her separation from Leyman Lahcine and her life as a single parent. Netflix series The Midnight Club fans will recognise Ruth. The actress starred in the popular streaming service show as Anya. She's also slated to appear in How To Train Your Dragon this summer. EastEnders stalwart Tameka is the sole soap star preparing to enter the Scottish castle. Famous for her role as Kim Fox on the hit BBC soap, Tameka is sure to have viewers in stitches - but will her acting experience help her keep her strategies under wraps? Acting veteran Celia, known for her roles in Bridget Jones' Diary, Mamma Mia!, Upstairs, Downstairs, Doctor Who and Absolutely Fabulous, is also joining the new series. Singer Cat Burns, a BRIT Award nominee famous for her viral hit 'live more and love more', is another addition to the show. With a massive following on TikTok, she's expected to draw in younger viewers. Singer Cat Burns is also heading into The Traitors. The BRIT Award nominated singer who is known for her viral hit live more & love more is a huge success on TikTok and will hopefully encourage some younger viewers to tune in.
