BBC sports presenter Mark Chapman is back on our screens this afternoon to front coverage of the FA Cup quarter-final tie between Preston North End and Aston Villa. The 51-year-old has become one of the most recognisable and well-liked faces in sports broadcasting over the years, having also fronted coverage of rugby league, the NFL and the Olympics alongside a host of football tournaments. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Chapman had landed the biggest gig of his career to date as he was named as one of three new presenters of Match of the Day. Sharing the role with Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan - with whom he also hosts The Sports Agents podcast - he will step into the hotseat after Gary Lineker's departure at the end of the current season. Chapman is at the top of his game, but his latest professional achievements come against the backdrop of a brutally hard time in his personal life, having tragically lost his wife Sara five years ago. Having got married in 2001, the couple went on to have three children together. But Sara was later diagnosed with cancer and, following a long battle with the illness, sadly passed away in June 2020 at the age of just 44. At the time, a source told The Sun: “Sadly Sara passed away on June 3. Mark and the kids are absolutely devastated. The family was there and it’s just a really sad situation. They’re an extremely private family and would appreciate people respecting that.” While he and his family were left heartbroken by the loss, Chapman has now found love again as it was revealed last year that he had started a relationship with estate agent Clere Collier, who is believed to be seven years younger than him. On the presenter's 51st birthday last year, Collier - who is based in Dubai but reportedly makes regular trips over to the UK - paid tribute to her "one love", sharing a photo of Chapman and writing: "Happy birthday to this one. My one love. "So proud of all you do, the biggest heart, the kindest soul, the leader of our pack and not to mention devilishly handsome. I love you, happy 51." According to The Sun, Collier previously worked at an agency in Hampstead in north London and was known as a "socialite", with her celebrity friends including actors, singers and radio DJ Chris Moyles. The publication adds that she has previously been married twice before and has two children from those relationships, while she previously dated Another Level boyband star Dane Bowers. Earlier this year, she and Chapman were seen walking hand-in-hand through the streets of Altrincham together, with the new Match of the Day host clearly smitten.
