Television enthusiasts have been expressing their strong opinions on Alison Hammond's upcoming role as host of the revived TV classic Hole In The Wall, which has been off screens for 16 years.
Reports suggest the This Morning favourite, aged 50, will be at the helm of the iconic BBC game show that had celebrity contestants navigating through peculiarly shaped openings in moving walls on Saturday evenings, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The programme, once led by Dale Winton, featured team captains Anton du Beke from Strictly Come Dancing and ex-cricket star Darren Gough. Despite excitement for the show’s return, not all viewers are thrilled about Alison stepping into yet another prominent presenting position.
Fans took to TV Zone's social media account to voice their concerns with one commenting: "Is there NO ONE else available to ask to host this? Literally, no one gets hosting jobs except very few of the same people. It's sooooooo boring!!!!"
Another suggested: "Bringing it back isn't a bad idea, but why go with Alison Hammond as the presenter? Personally, I would try it as a vehicle for a Richard Hammond comeback in game show hosting. I'd watch a Richard Hammond Hole In The Wall but I don't think Alison Hammond would be a good fit."
A third disenchanted fan remarked: "I'll give that a swerve. Same old recycled s**t. Latest flavour in TV presenters. Unoriginal."
However, some fans are thrilled at the prospect of Alison stepping into the main role. One enthusiastic supporter posted: "OH MY GOD YES I HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR THIS FOR YEARS!!!! Alison would be the PERFECT host!!!"
A television insider shared with The Sun: "Hole In The Wall got great ratings when it first came out so the Beeb have decided to bring it back. They are currently filming the pilot to see how it shapes up. They wanted to sign Alison and she jumped at the chance to do it...
"She's one of TV's most in demand stars right now and the Beeb is over the moon that they've signed her. Alison adores her job and is always on the lookout for shows where she can have a real laugh -that's why she loves presenting Bake Off and This Morning. They are light-hearted and fun."
