@Source: news18.com
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will have their new spin-bowling coach for the Centre of Excellence (COE) after the exit of Sairaj Bahutule, who left his role to join the Indian Premier League franchise, Rajasthan Royals. Following Bahutule’s exit, the board have started accepting invitations for the role which will be “integral to the development and performance enhancement of India’s spin bowling talent across all formats and age groups including India Senior Teams (Men & Women), India A, U-23, U-19, U-16, and U-15 squads and State association players training at the BCCI COE”. Bahutule had also briefly served as India’s bowling coach after the T20 World Cup until Morne Morkel’s arrival under Gautam Gambhir’s management. The COE, which has shifted to its new location in Bengaluru, was earlier known as the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The job requirement states that the spin-bowling coach will report directly to the former Indian cricketer and now Head of the COE, VVS Laxman. “The Spin Bowling Coach will work closely with the Head Cricket, BCCI COE, to design and deliver specialized coaching programs and assist in performance monitoring. “The role also involves working closely with Selectors, National and State Coaches, Performance Analysts, and Strength & Conditioning experts to develop high-performance training plans,” the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying in a media release. One of the most important responsibilities of the spin-bowling coach will be to ensure the rehabilitation and getting injured cricketers back to speed regarding their match fitness under the COE’s care. In addition, they should be able to plan and execute training sessions, one-to-one technical sessions and be able to map pathways for players individually with tangible objectives. They would also have to be well-versed in technology and understand how to extract and use the data stored in the GPS devices. The qualification demands the incumbent to be either a former Indian player or a first-class cricketer with 75-match experience. Previous experience of being part of a high-performance coach will be given credence. A BCCI level 2 or 3 certification is also necessary.
