Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was on Saturday fined Rs 12 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining a slow over rate during their seven-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in Ahmedabad. “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL said in a statement. Previously, DC's Axar Patel, Mumbai Indians' Hardik Pandya, Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson, and Lucknow Super Giants' Rishabh Pant were fined for maintaining a slow over rate in IPL 2025. Despite the fine on captain Gill, the Gujarat Titans defeated Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets, riding on Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 97, which he made while braving cramps. Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 204 with four balls to spare. The chase marked a historic moment for GT, as it was their first successful pursuit of a 200-plus total in their IPL history. It was also the first time any team had chased such a target against Delhi Capitals. The GT bowlers made great contributions to the win, with Prasidh Krishna taking 4 wickets for 41 runs. Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Ishant Sharma, and R. Sai Kishore each claimed one wicket. The victory helped Gujarat Titans reclaim the top spot on the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from seven matches. Delhi Capitals currently hold the second position, separated only by net run rate. GT will next take on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Monday evening, which is Gill's former IPL team.
