BCCI To Ask Test Stars To Undergo Red-Ball Practice Sessions During IPL 2025 To Prepare For England Tour: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India are reportedly set to introduce measures to help India’s international stars keep in touch with both red-ball and white-ball cricket in the coming few months ahead of the upcoming tour of England in June. With the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League coming up, preparations for the Test tour could be a problem as the Indian cricket board wants to end the team’s losing streak in the longest format and also begin the new season on a high. A report by Cricbuzz claims that the board will ask players to take part in the occasional red-ball practice sessions and activities that are tailor-made for specific players to ensure that they remain in good nick for the England tour, along with the IPL. Despite the report’s claims, the details regarding these activities remain unclear with the BCCI looking to keep the matter confidential. But the team management along with the BCCI have met in Dubai to discuss how they would go about this and would meet again after the Champions Trophy. Over the years, the norm has been for players to fully focus on franchise cricket but India’s recent habit of losses has been noted by the BCCI who are looking to ensure that it does not continue further. The Champions Trophy final is set to be played on March 9 (Sunday) with IPL 2025 set to begin two weeks later on March 22 (Saturday). Rohit Sharma and co have not been at their best in the longest format. They suffered a whitewash defeat to New Zealand on home soil which was followed by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series defeat Down Under as well. This ensured that the Indian team would not qualify for the World Test Championship final for the 2023-25 season. The BCCI would hope that these measures would help the Indian team get back to winning ways and a statement win on England soil would be the perfect way to get the team back on track. But it remains to be seen what the measures taken are and whether they would be effective in striking a balance between formats.
