Bears roster moves: Terell Smith to IR, 6 other players waived Sunday

The Chicago Bears are trimming down their training camp roster, including placing defensive back Terell Smith on injured reserve.
Smith, who suffered a torn patellar tendon in the Bears’ preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, will miss the entire 2025 season, dealing a blow to a secondary that has struggled to stay healthy during the preseason.
Jaylon Johnson has been working through a leg injury he suffered during offseason workouts, and did not play in any preseason games. Kyler Gordon recently returned to practice after suffering a hamstring injury during the preseason.
Smith appeared in 14 games for the Bears last season, with his first career interception and four passes defended on the year.
In addition to placing Smith on IR, the Bears also waived six other players. That list includes linebacker Swayze Bozeman, offensive lineman Chris Glaser, tight end Thomas Gordon, defensive backs Mark Perry and Jeremiah Walker, and wide receiver Samori Toure.
The Bears’ roster now stands at 84 players, with punter Tory Taylor receiving an international player exemption during training camp. That exemption does not carry over into the regular season.
The deadline for the Bears to get down to 53 players on their active roster will arrive on Tuesday.
