Bermuda Rugby Players Conclude Tropical 7s
Bermuda’s rugby representatives concluded their participation in the Tropical 7s tournament in Florida, with significant contributions to the West Indies teams. Najée Pitt-Clarke and Corrie Cross featured prominently for the West Indies Women’s team, which advanced to the Women’s Elite Championship Final. Meanwhile, Hadleigh Tucker and Jahniko Francis represented Bermuda on the West Indies Men’s team, which did not progress beyond the Group Stage.
The West Indies Men’s team began their final day with a 33-12 victory over Boston Rugby Select. However, subsequent matches resulted in a narrow 21-19 loss to the Great Danes Select and a 17-10 defeat to the Pirates 7’s, preventing their advancement to the knockout rounds.
The West Indies Women’s team, with Pitt-Clarke and Cross playing key roles, defeated the Chicago Lions in their Quarter-Final Play-off. They then secured a place in the Women’s Elite Championship Final with a 17-5 victory over Phoenix Rugby in the Semi-Final.
In the final, the West Indies Women faced MacDowell Rugby, the defending champions, and were defeated 26-19 in a close match. Despite the final loss, their journey to the championship game marked a successful tournament for the team.
