In stark contrast to his underwhelming spell at Manchester United, the 25-year-old has now hinted at the major factor behind his struggles in England.
Antony reveals secrets to resurgence in Spain
After a disappointing stint at Manchester United, where he managed only 12 goals in 96 appearances, Antony’s revival in La Liga has caught the attention of fans and pundits alike.
Speaking about his turnaround in form, the Brazilian winger pointed to the Spanish climate as one of the key reasons for his improved performances.
Speaking to reporters after Real Betis’ win over Leganes, the Red Devils loanee, "The sun here helps a lot, and the city (Seville) is better than Manchester.”
The shift to a warmer, more comfortable environment appears to have worked wonders for the former Ajax star, who struggled to adapt to the physicality and fast-paced nature of English football.
His latest goal in Betis' Conference League win over Vitoria was yet another sign that he is rediscovering his confidence and flair.
Betis keen on permanent move as Manchester United look to cut losses
Antony’s resurgence in Spain has not gone unnoticed by Real Betis, who have reportedly expressed interest in keeping him beyond his loan spell.
As part of their current agreement, the La Liga club is covering 84 percent of his Manchester United wages, a sum estimated to be upwards of £100,000 per week.
Given that United spent £85 million to sign him from Ajax in 2022, they are now looking to recoup a portion of that investment from a sale to Real Betis.
If Antony maintains his current form, Betis could push for a permanent transfer, though negotiations will depend on the financial terms as the LaLiga club are not the heavy spenders that Manchester United were when they signed Antony from Ajax.
