In a proud moment for India, the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra have been inscribed in the UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.The Memory of the World (MoW) Register lists documentary heritage, which has been recommended by the International Advisory Committee, and endorsed by the Executive Board, as corresponding to the selection criteria regarding world significance and outstanding universal value.Inscription on the Register publicly affirms the significance of the documentary heritage, makes it better known and allows for greater access to it, thereby facilitating research, education, entertainment, and preservation over time. There are 494 inscriptions on the International MoW Register, as of May 2023.From India, there are now 14 inscriptions on this register.Lauding the development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “A proud moment for every Indian across the world! The inclusion of the Gita and Natyashastra in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register is a global recognition of our timeless wisdom and rich culture. The Gita and Natyashastra have nurtured civilisation, and consciousness for centuries. With this, we now 14 inscriptions from our country on this international register," Shekhawat said adding that this global honour celebrates India’s eternal wisdom and artistic genius.
