Bibra Lake crash: Police launch investigation into horror collision that killed e-scooter rider
@Source: perthnow.com.au
Police have launched an investigation into a horror crash that claimed the life of a 35-year-old e-scooter rider in Bibra Lake on Tuesday.
At about 10.40am, at the intersection of Walliabup Way and Bibra Drive on Tuesday, a white Isuzu truck and e-scooter rider crashed.
The 35-year-old male rider was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital by St John WA in a critical condition but died of his injuries.
The driver of the Isuzu truck was not injured.
The tragedy follows the death of Tranh Phan, who was struck by an e-scooter last month, prompting a suspension of the hireable vehicles in the CBD, pending an investigation.
His death triggered a parliamentary inquiry which will investigate and overhaul the use of e-rideables.
Under WA law, e-scooters can be ridden up to 10km/h on footpaths and pedestrian crossings, and up to 25km/h on bicycle paths, shared paths and local roads.
WA’s road toll currently sits at 108 — the worst half of the year in a decade. At the same time last year, 94 people had died on the roads, and 78 in 2023.
Major crash investigators will conduct an examination of the scene at Bibra Lake and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
Dash-cam or mobile phone vision relating to this crash can be uploaded directly to investigators here.
