With camping chairs, picnic rugs and blankets in tow, the crowd descended to the Olympic Park venue in droves, with some fans setting up their makeshift camps from as far back as Thursday – four days before the singer takes to the stage.
Speaking to the Today show on Monday morning, one fan named Catalia said she had been camping outside Qudos Bank since Thursday to score the number-one stamp in the queue, meaning she is guaranteed to have the best spot in the moshpit once gates open this evening.
“I’m so excited and nervous and stressed,” she told the show’s social reporter Taylor Haynes.
When asked how she has kept herself entertained in the last few days, Catalia said the crowd has helped the hours tick by.
“We just had fun, played games, talked to each, song Billie Eilish [songs],” she told Haynes, who estimated there were 600 people and counting in the queue.
Over on TikTok, one fan named Sarah said she was number 334 in the queue after arriving at the venue on Sunday night.
“Hey Queens, I’m out the front of Qudos Bank Arena lining up for a Billie Eilish concert,” she said in video posted on the platform.
“It’s like 1am. We’ve been here for over an hour and there’s f***ing a lot of people. We are 334th.”
She added that she’s “kind of nervous” she’s “not going to get barrier” – that is, prime position by the stage barriers in the moshpit.
“For those who don’t know me, I’m 4 foot 10 [147cm], so if I don’t get barrier, I’m actually gonna be f***ed, like I’m probably gonna suffocate and probably die... So pray for me,” she said.
It was the same story in Brisbane last week when fans also lined up outside Brisbane Entertainment Centre, hoping to secure a front-row spot by the stage when gates opened.
One fan named Jessica arrived at the venue with her friends on Saturday night – three days before Eilish kicked off her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour Down Under.
The 23-year-old international star performed the first of her four shows at the venue last Tuesday evening, but that morning there were already 700 fans camping and waiting to get inside.
When her four Sydney shows wraps up on Friday, the Bad Guy singer will head down to Melbourne to perform another four shows at Rod Laver Arena from March 4.
