Alfie May’s one season stay with Birmingham City is at an end after the striker f inalised his transfer to Huddersfield Town. The 32-year-old signed for Blues from Charlton Athletic last summer and went on to play a pivotal part in Blues ’ record breaking League One promotion campaign. He scored 17 goals in an impressive 57 appearances and leaves St Andrew’s @Knighthead Park having made a real connection with Blues fans. The Blues website said : “Everyone at Birmingham City would like to thank Alfie for his contribution to the club and wish him every success in his future career.” May nearly joined Huddersfield last season only to find themselves gazumped by their big-spending rivals, however 12 months on the forward has penned a three-year contract and signs for an undisclosed fee. A £1.2million price tag has previously been reported. Huddersfield manager Lee Grant told the Terriers website : “Alfie is a natural goalscorer with a formidable record in recent years, so we’re really pleased to bring him into the group ahead of the new season kicking off. “He has a strong mentality, an infectious personality and is full of belief, and those are the hallmarks of all successful strikers. “His skillset is different to what we already have in the squad and he compliments the players that he’ll be featuring alongside well, so we look forward to having the opportunity to get straight down to work with him this week. “Alfie is another player we’ve introduced to the squad this summer that knows what’s required to be successful at the right end of this division, and that experience will be invaluable across the course of the season.” May is Town’s tenth signing of the summer and he arrives having scored 89 goals in 248 League One appearances. Blues still have Kyogo Furuhashi, Jay Stansfield and Lyndon Dykes as options up front.
