Star batter Babar Azam, who was plying his trade for the Peshwar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League before it was suspended due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, was on Wednesday trolled by England’s Sam Billings over an unwanted record.
While Billings registered the fastest half-century in PSL after racing to the milestone in just 19 deliveries, Babar recorded the slowest fifty in the edition after reaching there in 47 balls.
Billings, who plays for the Lahore Qalandars, achieved the feat against the Quetta Gladiators. On the other hand, Babar registered the embarrassing record against the Islamabad United.
Billings posted the Instagram story with a piece of music from the Indian TV series Panchayat, making the situation even bizarre.
The contrasting records of Billings and Babar were posted by a cricket page on Instagram, which was reshared by the former.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday announced that PSL will resume on Saturday, May 17, while the final will be played on Sunday, May 25.
PCB is considering having a mini replacement draft for the remaining Pakistan Super League games, as teams are struggling to ensure the availability of overseas players who left the nation in the wake of the recent India-Pakistan military conflict.
The Pakistan Cricket Board was planning to relocate the PSL to the UAE, but suspended it after tension grew at the border.
“This is because of the problems the Board and the franchises, excluding Multan Sultans, are facing in convincing their overseas players to return for the remaining matches to wrap up the league this year,” a franchise official was quoted as saying by PTI.
The official said that since Multan had just one game remaining and were out of the running for the playoffs, it wasn’t cost-effective for them to recall their overseas cricketers.
“But for Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Islamabad and Peshawar, who are in the running for the playoffs, their officials and the Board are in touch with the players’ agents to get them to return to Pakistan for the remaining matches,” the official said.
He said that if the teams did not achieve much success in convincing their overseas cricketers to return, the Pakistan Cricket Board would consider having a mini replacement draft.
