Black Orchids assists drought-affected families in Nissan Atolls

The call for drought assistance issued by the Bougainville Directorate of Disaster & Emergency has gained significant momentum in recent days, with International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Faith-Based Organizations, and Community-Based Organizations contributing relief items for families affected in the Nissan-Atolls region. Belinda Maree-Gara Lanbong, Secretary of the Community Government, expressed sincere gratitude to all organizations that have contributed to this crucial cause. Secretary Lanbong specifically acknowledged Bougainville Rugby and the Black Orchids Rugby 7s team for their much-needed assistance. The relief items donated by Bougainville Rugby have been safely stored at the Directorate of Disaster & Emergency storage facility alongside contributions from other partners, awaiting distribution. Mr. Jonathan Sapaka, President of the Bougainville Rugby Union, representing the Black Orchids 7s team, presented the relief items and conveyed the team’s heartfelt support to the affected families in the Nissan and Atolls region. The support from the Black Orchids team highlights the impactful partnership from community-level organizations, demonstrating the commitment of youth involved in sports to stand in solidarity with their peers affected by the drought. Coordinator for the Directorate of Disaster & Emergency, Quentin Talingapua, acknowledged the Black Orchids Rugby 7s team for their support and for recognizing the needs of the affected, vulnerable families. Coordinator Talingapua extended his best wishes to the team for their upcoming Sport Tok Sevens tournament in Port Moresby this week.
