FLINT, MI – The Midwest Invitational Rodeo is coming back to the Flint area a year after its first run sold out at the Genesee County Fairgrounds.
City of Flint officials on Monday, March 24, announced the rodeo’s return, promising a first-hand look at some of the nation’s top Black cowboys and cowgirls June 13-14.
The two-hour shows include steer-wrestling, bull-riding, and barrel racing.
“Flint is proud to once again host this thrilling rodeo event, giving our families and youth an opportunity to experience the incredible skill and legacy of Black cowboys and cowgirls,” Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said in a statement released by the city.
“We are not only celebrating history and sportsmanship, but we’re also opening doors for the next generation to see what’s possible.”
Advance tickets for the rodeo are available for $25 per day through the MWIR website. Tickets on the days of the rodeo will be $30. The fairgrounds is located at 6130 E. Mt. Morris Road in Genesee Township.
The rodeo lasts approximately two hours and will be held rain or shine, according to MWIR. Parking is $10 for the event.
In addition to the rodeo, city officials said an MWIR golf tournament will take place at its Swartz Creek Golf Course on June 13 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on June 14, the city and Genesee Health System will host a health and wellness fair at the fairgrounds, focusing on men’s physical and mental health.
The free health fair includes panel discussions, interactive demonstrations, mental and physical health screenings, and information on available community resources.
In a statement released by the city, MWIR owner and Chief Executive Officer Nicole Scott said this year’s rodeo is seeking vendors.
Scott can be reached at 630-809-8719 or at midwest-invitational.com.
The MWIR was formed in 2017. The organization says it was established to provide family-friendly entertainment and information on the impact of Western culture on this country.
