Blackpink’s Lisa breaks new ground with Oscars’ performance
@Source: nj.com
Lisa of the popular South Korean girl group, Blackpink, made Oscars history by becoming the first K-pop artist to perform at the 97th Academy Awards show on Sunday. The singer and rapper participated in the award show’s James Bond Musical Tribute, which started with actress Margaret Qualley performing the tango at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Then, while attached to harnesses, Lisa descended onto the stage surrounded by backup dancers and sang the “Live and Let Die” theme song from the 1973 Bond film of the same name. Her performance marked the first time a K-pop artist performed live at the Oscars, the Korea Herald reported. Lisa, born in Thailand, first rose to fame as one of the four members of Blackpink. Since forming in 2016, Blackpink has released hit songs like “Boombayah,” “How You Like That,” and “Pink Venom,” according to Apple Music. In 2024, each Blackpink member began releasing solo songs. But the group remained together and may go on tour this year, Cosmopolitan.com reported. After Lisa’s Oscar performance, rapper and singer Doja Cat sang “Diamonds Are Forever,” the theme song from the 1971 007 movie by the same name. The James Bond tribute ended with British singer and songwriter Raye singing “Skyfall” from the 2012 Bond film. Raye and Doja Cat are featured on Lisa’s single “Born Again,” which was released on Feb. 6. During late February, Lisa debuted her first solo studio album “Alter Ego,” according to Apple Music. This year, Lisa also made her acting debut by playing “Mook” in season three of the hit MAX series “White Lotus," which takes place at a luxury resort in her native Thailand. The show’s latest season premiered on Feb. 16. Mosaic staff writer Vashti Harris can be reached at vharris@njadvancemedia.com. Welcome to Mosaic.
