A police pursuit in Blue Island ended on Chicago’s Far South Side when an SUV ran a red light and plowed into two vehicles including a Pace bus injuring nine people — four critically — Wednesday night.
Around 7:20 p.m., the SUV, being driven by a 31-year-old man with a 34-year-old male passenger, was going east on Vermont Street near the 12700 block of South Halsted Avenue when the driver ran a red light and struck two sedans and a Pace bus, Chicago police said.
Officers from the Blue Island Police Department were attempting to a stop the SUV vehicle when the vehicle fled and the officers pursued, ABC7Chicago reported.
A boy, believed to be around 5 to 7 years old, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was in critical condition, police said.
A woman in the sedan was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was also in critical condition, officials said.
Six others were taken to area hospitals for treatment, Chicago Fire Department officials said. Two were in critical condition and the rest were listed in good condition, authorities said.
Police say no bus passengers were injured.
No further information was immediately available.
