Paralympic bronze medallist Eniola Bolaji has added another prestigious gold medal to her collection, winning the women’s singles SL3 category at the 2025 Spanish Para Badminton International II in Vitoria, extending her remarkable unbeaten run to 11 international tournaments.
The multiple African champion convincingly defeated Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyba 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) in the final on Sunday, cementing her status as one of the world’s dominant forces in para badminton.
Bolaji’s path to gold was nothing short of impressive as she dismantled every opponent in her way without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
She opened her campaign with a commanding 2-0 (21-15, 21-2) victory over Brazil’s Kauana Michelson Beckenka before dispatching France’s Caroline Bergeron 2-0 (21-7, 21-8) at the group stage.
The Nigerian continued her relentless form in the quarterfinals, where she overcame Australia’s Celine Vinot 2-0 (21-8, 21-12) before delivering another masterclass in the semifinals with a dominant 2-0 (21-12, 21-6) win over India’s Neeraj to book her spot in the final.
President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, praised Bolaji’s remarkable achievement, noting that the gold marks her second in just two months.
“Bolaji’s victory is a testament to her dedication and her rising dominance on the world para badminton stage. This gold is her second in just two months, and it shows that our athletes are capable of competing at the highest level,” Orbih said.
“We are committed to investing in Bolaji and all our para badminton players. Their success is a reflection of the hard work and resources we are putting into developing the sport. This victory is just one of many more to come. Our focus as a Federation is to ensure more players qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics,” he added.
Bolaji led a five-member Nigerian para badminton contingent to the tournament in Victoria, which included Okoro Chinyere Lucky, Chukwuemeka Ijeoma Gift, Eze Chukwuebuka Sunday, and Nnanna Chigozie Jeremiah, all competing in their respective singles categories.
Following their campaign in Victoria, three of the athletes – Bolaji, Jeremiah, and Eze – will proceed to Toledo, Madrid, for the more prestigious Spanish International Level 1 Para Badminton Championship, which will be held from March 12th to 16th.
Orbih also thanked the National Sports Commission for their timely intervention, which has been crucial in aiding the federation’s growth, noting that the Commission’s support and encouragement spells a new dawn for sports development in Nigeria.
