@Source: news18.com
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Wednesday between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was under tight security as plain clothes personnel from the Kolkata Police were stationed around the Eden Gardens before and during the match. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had received a bomb threat via e-mail ahead of the match as the CAB alerted Kolkata Police. Prompt action from the Police saw bomb squad deployed at the ground with extensive checks of parking spaces and the areas surround ing the stadium. Sniffer dogs surveyed the entire premises before that start but no untoward incident has been reported as of the time of publishing this report. “We received a bomb threat mail in the afternoon, after which we informed Kolkata Police. Security has been beefed up inside the stadium,” CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said in a statement. “The mail was detected in the official e-mail account of CAB. Investigation has been initiated and security has been tightened at the stadium,” he added. Before the start of the game, both KKR and CSK players, along with officials, lined up near the boundary rope to pay tribute to the Indian armed forces for the successful execution of Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory missile strike carried out in the wee hours of the day, targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The national anthem was sung at the ground before the match as the Eden Gardens’ giant screen displayed the message: “We are proud of our Armed Forces.” Despite the scare, the match was held without disruption as a 42,373-strong crowd attended the game at Eden Gardens.
