Three more getaway cars and two electric scooters were allegedly used. But the court heard that two separate Mercedes-Benz cars, allegedly borrowed by Nazlioglu and his wife Jade Heffer weeks before the killing, may shine a light on the motive of the alleged murderers.
In opening submissions on the first day of the NSW Supreme Court trial on Tuesday, Crown Prosecutor Eric Balodis said the jury would hear evidence that Atteya was in the Volkswagen Golf and was either the driver or the shooter.
The Crown’s case was that the other man in the car was neither of the co-accused and was not before the court as he was not in the country.
While Khaled and Baltagi were allegedly not in Rhodes at the time, Balodis submitted they “contributed to and participated in this joint criminal enterprise in a variety of ways in connection to its preparation and, in a sense, its aftermath”.
