The Boston Bruins have added another prospect to the organization with the signing of UMass forward Dans Locmelis to a three-year, entry-level contract with an annual salary cap hit of $860,000 on Tuesday. Locmelis was the 119th overall selection in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft and just finished his sophomore season as the Minutemen were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Western Michigan University on Friday. The Latvian native finished the tournament with a goal and two assists.
Locmelis had a strong second season in Amherst with eight goals and 25 assists and finished his career at UMass with 15 goals and 32 assists in 70 games. Locemlis has also been a Top 3 player in the last three World Junior Championships with Latvia and projects to play in the next Olympics.
The 21-year-old center will join the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League for the remainder of the season on an Amateur Tryout. Locmelis is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-shot forward who has continued to progress into a legitimate pro prospect.
