WBC bantamweight champion Junto Nakatani and his IBF counterpart Ryosuke Nishida will square off to unify their world championship belts on June 8 at Tokyo's Ariake Colosseum, organizers said Friday.
Nakatani has verbally agreed with undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya "Monster" Inoue to fight next year in what would be one of the most intriguing all-Japanese matchups in boxing history.
Nakatani, 27, has a 30-0 record with 23 wins by knockout, while 28-year-old Nishida is 10-0 with two KOs.
At present, all four major belts in the bantamweight division are held by Japanese, with Seiya Tsutsumi the WBA champion and Yoshiki Takei owning the WBO title.
On the same card, former kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa will face Victor Santillan of the Dominican Republic, who is ranked sixth by the WBA at bantamweight, in a 10-round fight before his potential first shot at a world title.
