BPS: April 2025 Inflation Reaches 1.17%, Driven by Housing and Utilities

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia experienced a 1.17 percent inflation rate in April 2025 on a month-to-month (mtm) basis. On a year-on-year basis, inflation stood at 1.95 percent, while the year-to-date figure reached 1.56 percent."In April 2025, there was an inflation of 1.17 percent on a monthly basis, or an increase in the Consumer Price Index from 107.22 in March 2025 to 108.47 in April 2025," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, in the routine inflation release at the BPS office on Friday, May 2, 2025.Pudji noted that April’s monthly inflation rate was lower than that of the previous month. The expenditure group with the largest contribution to monthly inflation was housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels–recording an inflation rate of 6.6 percent and contributing 0.98 percent to overall inflation."The dominant commodities driving inflation in this group are electricity tariffs, which contribute 0.97 percent to inflation," said Pudji.Other notable contributors to April’s inflation included gold jewelry (0.16 percent), red onions (0.06 percent), red chilies (0.04 percent), and tomatoes (0.03 percent).Meanwhile, several commodities contributed to deflation during the same period. These included bird’s eye chilies, which contributed a 0.08 percent deflation impact, broiler chicken at 0.06 percent, and broiler eggs at 0.04 percent."Overall, all components experience inflation," said Pudji.Prices regulated by the government rose by 5.21 percent and contributed 0.98 percent to inflation. Key drivers within this group were electricity tariffs, airfares, and train fares.Core inflation was recorded at 0.31 percent, contributing 0.2 percent to overall inflation. Main contributors here included gold jewelry and automobiles.In contrast, volatile price components experienced a slight deflation of 0.04 percent, subtracting 0.01 percent from inflation.
