We just take our chances if we see a big enough gap (Not including motorways, obvs.) To the best of my knowledge the concept of jaywalking as a criminal act was invented by lobbying insurance companies purely to lay the blame of any pedestrian/vehicle convergence at the feet of the pedestrian because they shouldn't have been on the road in the first place MythDragon (0) Funniest 33 minutes ago Best scene in the whole movie Is that a grenade? All that law ever did was give the cops another reason to harass people on the street. Separating these out for clarity and emphasis. They're both true. I fully expect Manhattan to turn into a SFO-style hellscape for both pedestrians and drivers too busy scrolling the Insta to pay attention to traffic. I look forward to the introduction of self-driving cars to the island. Porous Horace (0) Funniest 36 minutes ago "Chicken in a basket?" True, but on top of near zero public transport, we allow modded brodozers that can't see people or some cars, soccer moms on the 5th cup of Franzia driving the biggest Suburban thing money can buy (which should require a commercial truck license to operate), 85 year olds, newly arrived persons that can't read the road signage yet got licenses and cars anyway, and gigantic wide dangerous roads to accommodate these problems we allowed lol. The above still hit people in crosswalks. /the NYC enforcement is well known cop harassment, but nationally, crosswalks do make sense (0) Funniest less than a minute ago The full movie is on YouTube in 1080 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sif1BueXqYE It starts with a couple of Fark age guys drinking and setting up the film. In addition to Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine, it has boobies AND the wacko president who has been president since the "world crash of 79" lives in the "Summer Palace" says he's "done the best he can", "gives you what you want", and "minority privilege". Talk about life imitating art. iron de havilland (0) Funniest 1 minute ago morg: justanotherfarkinfarker: OldRod: Lee451: [Fark user image 850x472] I remember seeing that at the drive-in as a teenager. That was a great double feature Enough about your date, how were the movies? The_EliteOne (0) Funniest less than a minute ago For the most, if you DO get hit by a car while jaywalking in Manhattan, it's not usually that bad because no one can drive that fast anyway because of all the other cars. Working in the city for going on twenty years now, you see some crazy shiat. Bikes getting tangled and manageled, and somehow the rider getting up and walking away, people with so many near-misses. My favorite might've been the cabbie turning left and he didn't see the skater punk who almost got a broken hip, and the skater punk started beating his cab with his board. I was on my way to Duane Reade once and some lady came flying out of nowhere, making a right to get onto 8th Ave from somewhere in the high 20s, and I must've looked funny the way I sped up and jumped out of the way. She rolled down her window (rolled? pressed a button but that sounds weird) and apologized over and over again, and I only remember this because I said "Hey no worries, I could use a few days off of work" she scowled at me and said "God forbid!" and drove away.
