Thomas Frank has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new boss to bring an end to seven years at Brentford. The 51-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the north London outfit as he succeeds Ange Postecoglou in the dugout. Joining Frank in the dugout is assistant from Brentford Justin Cochrane (first-team coach), Chris Haslam (head of performance and first-team assistant coach) and Joe Newton (first team coach analyst), while Andreas Georgson (first team assistant coach) arriving from Manchester United. Postecoglou was axed by Spurs earlier this month – exactly two years to the day following his arrival from Celtic. Despite ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought by scooping the Europa League – securing Champions League football in the process – their Premier League form was too much of a concern for chairman Daniel Levy. Tottenham finished in 17th spot – just one place above the relegation zone – 12 places lower than where they ended in the 2023/24 campaign. A nightmare top-flight term saw them rack up their most Premier League defeats in a single season [22], their fewest points [38] and lowest position. And they have moved swiftly to bring in Frank from London rivals Brentford, who he had been at since 2018. Spurs paid around £10million to prise him away from the Bees, a record amount the club have ever paid for a manager. Spurs activated the Dane’s release clause – believed to be in the region of £9million – having turned Brentford from a Championship side to an established Premier League team. Frank guided the Bees to the top-flight in 2021, with the club since finishing in the top ten twice in the last three years. And he has now become Spurs’ 13th permanent manager since Levy was appointed as the club’s chairman in 2001. Just two managers – Juande Ramos and Postecoglou – have guided Tottenham to silverware. And for Frank, it will be the first time in his career that he would have managed in a major European competition. He had helped Danish giants Brondby achieve Europa League qualification in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, but they failed to reach the group stages on both occasions. For Arsenal legend Martin Keown, he believes Frank and Spurs could be a match made in heaven. He told talkSPORT: “I think Frank is perfect.” Keown continued: “He’s stable, he’s solid, I think this guy’s approach is a softer approach (compared to former managers), a more intelligent approach. “I think it’s the perfect match.” As for Brentford, talkSPORT understands they have identified Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna as a potential replacement for Frank. It was only last summer which saw McKenna turn down approaches from Chelsea and Brighton to extend his stay at Portman Road.
