The British and Irish Lions are off to a disappointing start to their summer schedule. Andy Farrell’s star-studded side, captained by England skipper Maro Itoje, lost to Argentina and relinquished the 1888 Cup in their farewell fixture in Dublin on Friday night ahead of a trip to Australia that includes nine matches in total, with three all-important Tests coming up against Joe Schmidt’s improving Wallabies. The Lions will also come up against the best of Super Rugby and two invitational teams as they look to make it a summer to remember Down Under. The Lions famously recorded their first series win since 1997 on their last trip to Australia under Warren Gatland in 2013, before battling to a draw in New Zealand four years later and then being pipped 2-1 by the reigning world champion Springboks in the Covid-impacted tour of South Africa back in 2021.
