A British expat has been slammed after revealing the surprising reason he turned his back on Australia after living Down Under for just six months.
Dan Lezar, who starred in Netflix series Cheat: Unfinished Business, said he moved to Australia to play cricket for the summer, but struggled to enjoy his time because he lived in Newtown, in Sydney's inner west, instead of by the beach.
'You know those people that go to Australia and find themselves? That wasn't me I lost myself,' Mr Lezar said in a TikTok.
'The only good thing about Australia was the blue skies, but in Sydney you didn't get it that often. It actually rained a lot, so for me I was like, "Why am I here? I have no friends".'
After six months, Mr Lezar returned home to Wales and explained his struggle to make friends was the deciding factor in leaving Australia.
He said that although Australia was a 'beautiful' country, he 'made the mistake of not living by the beach so I didn't have the Aussie dream'.
Mr Lezar claimed those who adapt the best to Sydney life have moved with a partner, a group of friends or have solo-travelled and met others before settling in one place.
He said the friends he did make often lived in the eastern suburbs and he found it difficult meeting up with them while living in the inner west.

The Netflix star said it would take him up to 40 minutes to get to the beach and this wasn't feasible on weekdays while working full-time, and on the weekends the eastern suburb beaches 'were too busy'.
Mr Lezar said he made the mistake of not planning better in advance and would advise other British expats to pay more to live by the beach.
'My issue was where I was living it felt like I was back home, there wasn't a lot to do yet I was on the other side of the world with no friends,' he said.
Mr Lezar said he struggled with his mental health while in Sydney and this ultimately led him to making the decision to return home.
He also expressed his shock at how expensive it was to live in the Harbour City compared to his small hometown in Wales.
Mr Lezar's take on Sydney living was slammed by several Australians who questioned his desire to live by the beach.
'Why are people so obsessed with living by beach?' one commented.
'Especially in Sydney? There is so much more to our amazing country than Sydney (or Melbourne or QLD incl Gold Coast).'

'Living near the beach doesn't get you friends or fun, this is a weird focus,' another wrote.
'Making friends is very hard nowadays, I only made friends overseas through hostels, houseshare and work, honestly.'
Others advised expats should try and live elsewhere in Australia.
'Why does everyone come to Sydney?' someone asked.
'The country is massive with so much more to offer than Bondi which is an overrated beach anyway. You moved to the other side of the world and stayed in one place?'
'As an Australian that's lived in a lot of different states Sydney isn't the friendliest place,' another said.
'I'm from Queensland it's so much easier to make connections there.'
Others agreed with Mr Lezar saying it was 'super hard making friends here in Sydney'.
'You're right about what you say,' another chimed in.
'Sydney is ridiculously expensive, the beaches are packed on weekends and it's a hassle to get there. Sydney would be great if you didn't have to worry about money.'
