Brooks Koepka Breaks Silence on Fred Couples' Claim of PGA Tour Return
@Source: newsweek.com
As the biggest event of the PGA Tour calendar gets underway on Thursday at The PLAYERS Championship, some of golf's biggest stars are absent from the proceedings.Two of the biggest names in the sport, Brooks Kopeka and Bryson DeChambeau, will instead be at LIV Golf Singapore on Friday instead of The PLAYERS. However, with both of them nearing the end of their LIV contracts, rumors have been flying about their futures in the sport.Earlier this month, longtime PGA Tour veteran Fred Couples insinuated that Koepka wants to return to the PGA after his contract expires in what would be a groundbreaking move.Ahead of LIV Singapore, Koepka dismissed that notion and refused to look past his current deal, via Mark Schlabach of ESPN."I've got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we'll see what happens," Koepka said. "I don't know where I'm going, so I don't know how everybody else does."While the five-time major champion didn't agree with Couples' comments, he didn't exactly give a ringing endorsement of LIV either.Koepka will have all of his focus set on having a good result in Singapore this week as he gears up for The Masters in April. He disappointed in 2024 at Augusta National after a T-2 finish in 2023 and will be hungry to complete the third leg of the career grand slam.The Florida native has played in three LIV events this season with one top 10 finish in Adelaide in February.The conversations around some of LIV's stars possibly jumping back to the PGA is reaching a fever pitch, which is understandable at this point in the golf calendar. Two of the biggest events that the LIV defects are unable to participate in -- the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The PLAYERS -- are stealing a majority of the sport's headlines during the month of March.For golf fans hoping to see Koepka back on the PGA Tour after his current deal, his noncommittal comments should be seen as a win.More Golf: The PLAYERS: Adam Scott Hints at PGA Tour Deal with LIV 'Not Possible
