Brooks Koepka Drops Shocking Admission of LIV Golf Lack of Progress
@Source: newsweek.com
The signing of Brooks Koepka was considered one of LIV Golf's biggest coups at the time of its inception. Five league victories and a major championship later, Koepka has more than proven that they were right to chase him.The 34-year-old is also heavily involved in the organizational side of the circuit, personally managing his team, Smash GC. This gives him a vision of LIV Golf that goes far beyond what goes on inside the ropes, and his impressions are not entirely positive.While Koepka has expressed his commitment to the Saudi-backed league, he has also been critical of it.In a recent interview with The Joe Pomp Show, a YouTube channel hosted by journalist Joe Pompliano, the five-time major champion admitted LIV Golf has not made the expected progress."Look we're 4 years in, it's just getting its feet wet and figuring out what direction they want it to go," Koepka said. "Obviously there's been a lot of change and hires of people within LIV and now having Scott [new CEO Scott O'Neal]... I think Scott's a great guy and he can lead LIV to where it needs to be and where I think it should be.""Because we are behind. To be quite fair. Behind where we should be. From bringing sponsors in to hitting the international market and the US market."Koepka mentioned the role that the recent agreement with Fox Sports to televise league events could play."[The new TV deal with Fox Sports] definitely helps, but we need to take that and expand it and grow it. We're not on Fox every time we play. So we've still got room to grow but we've got the right people in charge now and I'm excited to see where it goes."Brooks Koepka's interest in staying with LIV Golf has been questioned on several occasions, most recently a few weeks ago due to comments made by Fred Couples. The 1992 Masters champion claimed Koepka was eager to return to the PGA Tour and said he had personally discussed the matter with him.Days later, Koepka addressed the issue during a press conference and did not deny what Couples had said. But he assured he was focused on fulfilling his contract with LIV Golf, which runs through the end of the 2026 season. After that, the West Palm Beach native said, "We'll see."Koepka's next competitive commitment is the Miami event on April 4-6 to play the Masters Tournament a week later.More Golf: PGA Tour Pro Explains 'Losing His Cool' in Wild Valspar Outburst
