Brooks Koepka Says LIV Golf is 'Behind', Fans React
@Source: yardbarker.com
In 2022 Brooks Koepka left PGA Tour in favor of LIV Golf. In the 2025 season, there have been several rumors of him leaving once his contract is up. Fred Couples managed to fan the flames when he revealed that Koepka missed the tour during a radio interview. Koepka hasn’t had much criticism during his tenure at LIV Golf, but that changed during an interview. According to Koepka, LIV Golf is Behind. Koepka’s Comments During Koepka’s interview on The Joe Pomp Show, he laid it out plain and simple. “Look we’re 4 years in, it’s just getting its feet wet and figuring out what direction they want it to go. Obviously there’s been a lot of change and hires of people within LIV and now having Scott. I think Scott’s a great guy and he can lead LIV to where it needs to be and where I think it should be. Because we are behind. To be quite fair. Behind where we should be. From bringing sponsors in to hitting the international market and the US market”. This relates to multiple issues with LIV that have been covered multiple times before. Koepka brings up LIV Golf’s struggles with viewership numbers, it usually gets over a hundred thousand views. Meanwhile, PGA Tour events regularly get millions of views. Sponsors have been reluctant to support LIV Golf and its golfers; Dustin Johnson discovered this first-hand when he first joined. All this is on top of LIV struggling to make a profit; operating costs alone already exceed its revenue. The initial sign-on deals cost the league hundreds of millions per golfer. Last but not least was the PGA’s suspension on any player who played with LIV within a year of them trying for a PGA event. All this mixed together has hampered LIV’s attempts at growth. The league is only still standing because the expenses are just pocket change to an organization like the PIF. Fan Reaction Fans are pretty down on LIV Golf in general. With it being owned by the PIF, its presence has always been controversial. However, now fans are looking at its lack of growth in terms of viewership and just personal engagement with it and wondering how it is sticking around. The sentiment is pretty in line with Koepka’s thinking in the replies to the interview. “It’s a dead fish…4 years in and no way up,” one fan wrote. “It was over before it started a big money grab. The PGA Tour is thriving no matter what people say,” another fan said Some fans are still in the wait-and-see phase, trying to determine what they think of the league. “They are not 4 years in. They are 3 years and some change. I think they’re ahead of what most people thought. We’ll see where they’re at when they hit the 5-year mark.” Other commenters have pointed out something to note: that LIV’s presence is a lateral move for the sport, regardless of how well it does. Why? It forces the sport further into the modern age. Another commenter said, “Golf is on an upward trajectory, and that is because of LIV and TopGolf and TGL… the “changes” work.” Most were not very confident in LIV Golf, yet they still see its existence as a net positive. Brooks Koepka Has A Point Both Brooks Koepka and the fans are right about one thing, for sure. LIV Golf is behind the PGA in every aspect. It has made plenty of splashes in the golf world and the PGA sees its value in a potential merger. However, after four years, one thing is for sure: in the words of Brooks Koepka, “we are behind.”
