Bruins call Riley Duran, whose family is from Adams, up to NHL club

When Riley Duran signed with the Boston Bruins organization last year, the former Providence College player — who has family in Berkshire County — wasn't giving himself any kind of timetable to put on the Boston spoked B.
"No, no," he said. "I'm just trying to play my hardest down here and hopefully it will work out."
It has worked out, at least temporarily, because the former Providence college standout was recalled by the Bruins from their American Hockey League team in Providence.
He heard late Wednesday and was "super-excited. I just want to say it's a dream come true," he said in the locker room at TD Garden after Thursday morning's pregame skate before the game with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The press release from the Bruins describes it as a "recall on an emergency basis." While Duran has come up, his former P-Bruins linemate Patrick Brown was returned to Providence.
The newest Boston Bruin is the son of Jim and Lori McLaren Duran. Riley Duran has extensive ties to Berkshire County, and specifically Adams. His mother is the former Lori McLaren, who was a multi-sport standout at Hoosac Valley High School, while his father coached men's hockey at MCLA from 1995-1998.
"I called my dad first and worked it down to my mom and my sister," he said, "and then all the texts came in. He was shocked. He was pumped up.
"I ended up going home for dinner to eat with my family. They were all shocked, too. Hard work pays off."
Riley Duran's sister Kayla played college soccer at Boston College and USC. Mom Lori played soccer, basketball and softball at Utica University after graduating from Hoosac Valley.
Duran, 23, has appeared in 58 games with the Providence Bruins this season, recording 12 goals and four assists for 16 points. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound forward has skated in 69 career AHL games, all with Providence, totaling 14 goals and six assists for 20 points.
Duran played in 102 career NCAA games with Providence College from 2021-24, tallying 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points. The Woburn native was originally selected by Boston in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
"It's a grind" in the minors, he said. "I've learned a lot. Definitely missing some parts of my game that the Providence coaches stayed on me. I've been playing good the last couple of weeks. Just playing more physical, using my speed. I can skate, but sometimes I [don't] use it in the right way all the time. Just using my speed, playing physical and winning puck battles goes a long way."
It is not known how long Duran will remain with the parent club. The Bruins did not make the playoffs, and after Thursday's game, the Bruins have two more contests — at Pittsburgh on Sunday and at home against New Jersey Tuesday night.
"I'm just hoping to bring my compete, play hard and good things will happen," Duran said. "I'm really excited to get going here and playing in the Garden."
