Bryan Mbeumo's £71m Man Utd transfer deal agreed as star frozen out of first team plans

Manchester United are set to launch their pre-season with a clash against Leeds United in Stockholm this Saturday, and Ruben Amorim is eager for Bryan Mbeumo to join the squad heading to the US shortly after. After protracted negotiations, it seems Brentford have finally caved in to United's third offer , believed to be in the region of £71m, for the Cameroon striker. Mbeumo is poised to become United's third summer acquisition following Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. Yet, rumours continue to swirl regarding the future of several players from the so-called Carrington "bomb squad", with a number of high-profile individuals likely to stay behind as they consider exits from United, having been told by Amorim that they don't feature in his plans. Here's a roundup of the major stories emerging from Old Trafford as the new season edges nearer. Bryan Mbeumo's blockbuster £71m transfer to Manchester United is nearing completion after Brentford agreed to let their leading scorer depart, reports the Mirror . The Bees have turned down two previous bids from United for the 25-year-old, but the third proposal has now been accepted. Brentford are set to pocket an upfront sum of £65m, paid over four instalments, with an additional £6m due in performance-related bonuses. With personal terms already sorted between Mbeumo's camp and United officials, the deal is expected to be finalised within days, subject to a successful medical. The Cameroon international had also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, a move that would have seen him follow in the footsteps of head coach Thomas Frank last month. However, he will now be linking up with United. Ruben Amorim's firm stance on United's surplus players hasn't been entirely well-received by the club's staff. United have put Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia in the 'bomb squad' as they attempt to offload them. But this decision has caused some discord. The quintet have been informed that they have no future under Amorim at United and are consequently looking for transfers to other clubs. Rashford, Garnacho, Antony, Sancho and Malacia have been separated from the first-team, made to train separately to create a divide between the two groups. According to The Athletic, the bomb squad strategy is contentious within the club, with concerns it sends the wrong message. Aston Villa are the latest team to express an interest in United outcast Alejandro Garnacho. The winger is expected to leave the Red Devils before the transfer window closes and is not part of Ruben Amorim's plans. The Argentine international, who was up for sale in January, was instructed to find a new club by the Portuguese head coach after Garnacho publicly criticised the decision not to start him in the Europa League final loss to Tottenham. Consequently, Garnacho has been left out of United's pre-season preparations. Instead, the winger has been told he can turn up for training at Carrington from 5pm, once the first team have finished their session.
