The PGA Championship is set to host its 107th edition at Quail Hollow, a venue steeped in history. Starting from its legendary winners to its challenging holes, the Wanamaker Trophy, and the evolving format. But for players, understanding every detail of the event is crucial, as even the smallest oversight can lead to career-altering consequences.Just ask Bryson DeChambeau, who learned this lesson the hard way.During his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday, DeChambeau shared a startling memory from his last PGA Tour appearance at Quail Hollow.A moment that could have jeopardized his career had he not realized his mistake in time.Bryson DeChambeau relives wild Quail Hollow story"Quail Hollow is an amazing place. Charlotte is a great place. I love it here. I've always felt comfortable here," Dechambeau said during the pre-tournament conference at the PGA Championship. He emphasised, "Even when I was playing here on the PGA TOUR, I felt really comfortable." DeChambeau played several times at Quail Hollow during his PGA Tour era. In 2017, he positioned himself at T33 while Justin Thomas grabbed the title. But comfort didn't save him from one of the biggest miscalculations of his career."I remember, funny side little note, I thought I missed the cut and I was flying back, and halfway through—this is the last time I played."Mid-flight, Bryson DeChambeau discovered he had actually made the cut, his next action was making it to the course the next day."So I landed, I stayed the night at my house in Dallas and flew at 2:30 in the morning back to go get my tee time, and I finished seventh that week or something like that, I think a top 10 that week.""It was worth it," DeChambeau admitted. For any professional golfer, keeping track of the cut line is critical—it is the difference between earning a paycheck or playing two days for free.In DeChambeau's case, an oversight of this magnitude would have severely impacted his wallet.Interestingly, DeChambeau isn't the first golfer to miscalculate an important tournament detail—others have had their moments of confusion.MORE GOLF: Revisiting Tiger Woods' Back-to-Back PGA Championship Title Runs
