Jammu: A Border Security Force (BSF) sub inspector was killed and seven others were injured in a Pakistani firing incident along the International Border in Jammu’s R S Pura sector on Saturday. Reportedly the Sub-Inspector identified as Mohammed Imteyaz, who led from the front with bravery, died of injuries, while the others were taken to a hospital. The Jammu border of the BSF paid its respects to Sub-Inspector Imteyaz, terming his death an ultimate sacrifice. “We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF braveheart sub-inspector Md Imteyaz in service of the nation”, the force’s Jammu frontier said in a post on X. The director general and staff of the force sent condolences to the family of Imteyaz, and a wreath-laying ceremony was scheduled at the BSF Jammu frontier headquarters. His nephew, Mohd Aftab said, “He last spoke to me two days ago. We inquired about each other’s health. We came to know about (his demise) at night, around 8.30-8.45 pm. We were told that he is no more. He was really good, he was my maternal uncle.” This incident came during the backdrop of a US-mediated ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan, which US President Donald Trump announced. The ceasefire, applicable from 5 pm on Saturday, will cease all military action on land, air, and sea. Trump’s announcement followed hectic diplomatic activity, with the Secretary of State Marco Rubio driving the negotiations process. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri witnessed the ceasefire agreement, noting that the two countries’ directors general of military operations agreed to put an end to all firings and military activities. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the news, emphasizing Pakistan’s determination for peace in the region without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
