‘Business’ Savvy boxing champion exposes sport’s belts, sanctioning bodies: ‘We are keeping them alive!’

Keyshawn “Businessman” Davis became the WBO lightweight champion on February 14 by knocking out Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round of their fight at Madison Square Garden.
While earning a belt is the goal of most aspiring boxers, Davis says they are more of a scam than anything.
“F--- undisputed. That don’t mean s---," Davis said during an appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game on Friday. “Each belt you get, you’ve got to pay for them at the end of the day ... Us fighters that are promoting these belts and sanctioning bodies, we are keeping them alive ... Us fighters that be like, ‘I’m a world champ.‘ ... We are getting their s--- lit so they can keep charging us for that s---."
Davis referenced another Davis, and boxing superstar Ryan Garcia, and their lucrative clash on April 22, 2023 as an example.
“That wasn’t for no world title fight, that was for respect,“ Davis said. ”Ryan Garcia brought the Mexicans, (Gervonta) “Tank” (Davis) brought the Blacks ... It was a big fight and they both made a lot of money off that s---."
“That’s why Tank never really wanted to be a world champ, because of small s--- like that,” Davis added.
Keyshawn Davis won the IBF junior lightweight title in 2017, the WBA junior lightweight title in 2018, and the WBA (super) junior welterweight title in 2021.
“I know the sport of boxing,“ he said. ”My name is the ‘Businessman' for a real reason."
Davis also won silver medals at the 2019 World Championships, 2019 Pan American Games, and 2020 Summer Olympics throughout his amateur career.
“What champion of the NBA Finals or Super Bowl got to pay to be a champion?” Davis asked rhetorically. “F--- that s---!”
