The Fiji Water Flying Fijians side will only have nine days to train together as a full squad before they face Wallabies on July 6 at McDonald Jones Stadium, Australia, at 3.30pm. However, head coach Mick Byrne said the short turnaround for preparation was not new. He said 50 per cent of the extended squad will be from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side while the Northern Hemisphere based- players who have made themselves available will make up the remaining 50 per cent. The squad will assemble in Sydney on the afternoon of June 27 before they take a bus ride to Newcastle. “We looking forward even though we’ve got a sort of a limited preparation for it; that doesn’t affect us, you know, we we’ve had that over the years,” Byrne said. “We’ve found a way to come together quickly and perform, so we’ll be pretty excited for a big game against the Wallabies in Newcastle.” Byrne said while it was a tough year for Drua most of their played exceptionally well in the new format adopted in this season’s Super Rugby Pacific competition. He will name his wider squad in a few weeks as Drua heads to their final match of the season against Reds and would not name his side before the season ends. “It’s been difficult; we’ve got some great players playing around the world,” he said. Byrne indicated a few Europe-based players were not available last year however things are on track for them this year.
