Call the Midwife's Nancy Corrigan's return explained after Megan Cusack makes surprise comeback

Call the Midwife fans were delighted with a surprise return on BBC One this weekend as Nancy Corrigan's daughter, Colette, played by Francesca Fullilove, attended a dress fitting in Poplar. She joined the likes of Violet Buckle, portrayed by Annabelle Apsion, and Shelagh Turner, played by Laura Main, as they got ready for Nancy's much-anticipated wedding.
While Violet disclosed a last-minute change to Nancy's wedding dress, Shelagh humorously remarked about the bridesmaids' potential struggles to fit into their dresses. Although viewers enjoyed Colette's return, it wasn't until the preview of the next episode that they caught a glimpse of Nancy herself.
The teaser showed Nancy, played by Megan Cusack, and Colette warmly greeting old friends back in Poplar. It's not certain why they've come back, but speculation points towards Nancy's upcoming nuptials.
The BBC has reassured fans that actress Megan Cusack hasn't permanently departed from the series after apprehensions arose due to her exit earlier in season 14.
Nancy had previously accepted a job at Netherditch hospital after getting engaged to Roger, played by Conor O'Donnell, asserting it was better for her and her daughter and placed her closer to Roger.
Nevertheless, she promised she'd return to what she fondly calls "home" in Poplar for her wedding, indicating her leave was never meant to be long-term, reports the Mirror.
Actress Megan has put fans' minds at ease regarding her character Nancy's future on the show, confirming that despite the new romantic developments, her character isn't leaving. "Just because she's fallen in love, she's not leaving us," she assured.
"There's lots of things happening, she's got lots going on, you know, a job offer, an engagement, an overbearing mother-in-law-to-be. So she's got a lot going on."
As Nancy's wedding plans are underway, it seems she may appear more often as she prepares for her special day. Audiences are left wondering if this is a brief return or if Nancy is back for the long haul.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One on Sundays at 8pm
