Five sixth formers who go to school in Cambridgeshire are celebrating receiving offers to attend an Oxbridge university. The Impington International College students will be attending university from September 2025. The school was ranked as East Anglia's top comprehensive school in The Sunday Times Parent Power list 2025. Students Arwen T and Anjali S have both received offers from the University of Oxford to read Geography and Psychology respectively. Closer to home, students Marina B, Izzy H and Beth H have all received offers from the University of Cambridge. Marina has an offer to read Medicine, Izzy to read Natural Sciences, and Beth to read Human, Social and Political Sciences. Bronwyn Wilson, Assistant Principal: Head of Sixth Form (DP), said: “I am immensely proud of our students who have attained offers from the most esteemed colleges in the world in such a variety of subjects. The offers are a testament to our dedicated students and their International Baccalaureate studies; they are bucking the misconception that if you want to study subjects like Medicine at university, you have to specialise at Sixth Form and study A Levels.” Leanne Gibbons, Assistant Principal: Head of Sixth Form (CP), added: “The application and interview processes for Oxbridge are rigorous and can certainly be intimidating, which is why we work extensively with our students to ensure that they are well prepared. Through our extended College community, and the relationships that we have established with the universities, we provide a supportive process, including mock interviews, for our students and work with them to refine their skills and, ultimately, secure their offers.” The Oxbridge offers follow the news that the College received a positive report from its recent IB Evaluation visit. The college was praised for its "commitment to educational equity’ for providing ‘access for students of all backgrounds and abilities". Victoria Hearn, Executive Headteacher, said: “While we are, of course, immensely proud of our students who have attained offers to study at Oxbridge universities, we are equally as proud of all of our students who have flourished within our inclusive learning environment. An IB education really is a ticket to a world of opportunity, and this is evidenced by our storied history of alumni successes that have been achieved over our 30-year history of offering the programmes. "From gaining places at leading universities around the world, to entertaining audiences on stages in the West End, to making fans cheer in Premier League football stadiums and so much more, our alumni have achieved some incredible feats within their chosen fields. We are now the only provider of a Sixth Form IB education in Cambridgeshire and I am delighted to offer this future-ready education to our students, free of charge.” To get more breaking news and top stories delivered directly to your phone, join our new WhatsApp community.
