Can Root Break Tendulkar's Record Of Most Test Runs? Ex-Batter Makes Big Prediction
@Source: news18.com
Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu, who played 55 ODIs and six T20Is for India from 2013 to 2019, feels that England batter Joe Root may break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most runs in Test cricket, but he can’t beat the batsmanship of him. Tendulkar played a total of 200 red-ball matches for Team India during his 24-year-long career from 1989 to 2013 and amassed a total of 15,921 runs. On the other hand, Root has 13,543 runs to his credit in 158 matches.
The 34-year-old right-handed batter is only behind Tendulkar in the list of batters with the most runs in Test cricket. He broke Rahul Dravid’s, Jacques Kallis’s and Ricky Ponting’s records of 13288, 13289 and 13378 runs, respectively, during his 150-run knock in the first innings of the fourth India-England Test played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23 to 27.
During a recent appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, when Rayudu was asked if Root can break Sachin’s record of most Test runs, he said, “Records are different, but you can’t beat the batsmanship of Sachin paaji,” Rayudu said.
According to Rayudu, who shared the dressing room with Tendulkar during his playing days in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians, Tendulkar is the best Test batter of all time.
“You should not compare anybody with Sachin. That is a crime. He’s a god; you can’t compare anyone with the god. He was something else. Sachin paaji batting-wise is… batsmanship, technique, timing, adaptation, different conditions mei khelna – extraordinary. They (Sachin and Virat) are equal in white ball, but in red ball, Sachin paaji, you can’t beat.”
Tendulkar also holds the record for scoring the most runs in ODIs. He played 463 matches for Men in Blue during his 23-year-long ODI career and, with the help of 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries, scored 18,426 runs. Sachin’s closest competitors in the list of batters with the most runs in the 50-over format of the game are Kumar Sangakkara and Virat Kohli.
While Sangakkara finished his career with 14,234 runs in 404 matches, Kohli has amassed a total of 14,181 runs in 302 ODIs played so far.
