Car giant issues another urgent recall over fears thousands of vehicles could catch fire
@Source: dailymail.co.uk
Ford has recalled 700,00 vehicles worldwide due to fears that a defect could lead to underhood fires.
The company says that the issue affects certain models of the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and the 2020-2022 Ford Escape, with an engine capacity of 1.5L.
Ford has said a problem with the fuel injector may cause it to crack, resulting in a fire hazard.
Italian firm Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies supplied the parts, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall report.
According to authorities, a leak in the fuel could cause there to be a fuel odour on the inside and outside of the cars.
Affected customers may also see smoke or even flames emerging from the engine's compartment or underbody.
A fire warning may also be flashed on the instrument panel in case this happens.
To fix the issue, the vehicles' engine control software would have to be updated to detect a cracked fuel injector.
There would also need to be a strategy to disable the high-pressure fuel pump', 'derate engine power' and reduce temperatures in the engine.
Also, a tube will have to be inserted to help direct fuel from any sources of fire.
Ford also aims to rectify the issues with cars that were not updated correctly.
A recall query was opened last April after it was determined that the update did not tackle the underlying cause of the fuel injectors' issue.
It has been reported that a permanent solution to the problem is currently being developed.
The corrections will be provided by Ford dealers free at no extra cost to customers.
So far, there have been no injuries reported as a result of the issue.
The company says it has forecast that its finances will see a $750 million drop due to the recall.
It notified dealers about the defect on July 15, and customers should receive notification letters by mail on August 18.
So far this year, Ford has been hit with several recalls affecting millions of customers.
