Cardinals Could Make Drastic Kyler Murray Decision, Insider Says
@Source: newsweek.com
It has been a wild road for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick who flashed tantalizing potential early on in his career but has become somewhat of a forgotten man in the NFL over the last couple of seasons.A torn ACL Murray suffered during the second half of 2022 has certainly changed the trajectory of his career, although he did show some promise last year when he put together his best performance since last making the Pro Bowl in 2021.More news: Pittsburgh Steelers Projected to Swing Big Move for Aaron RodgersBut has Murray demonstrated enough in recent seasons for the Cardinals to maintain a long-term commitment to him?ESPN's Dan Graziano offered some possible outcomes for Murray in 2025, and while he feels the most likely scenario is that the 28-year-old plays well enough to keep Arizona in playoff contention, he also thinks there could be an exit plan in place. Let's just say Graziano's "long shot outcome" for Murray isn't pretty."Arizona's season completely collapses, people in charge get fired, and a new regime comes in and decides the best thing for the franchise is to move on at QB in the 2026 draft," Graziano wrote. "Murray becomes a candidate to be released or traded, while one of the top QB prospects for 2026 lands in Arizona in Round 1."Murray signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals back during the summer of 2022. The deal runs through 2028, with the final year of the pact being a $34 million club option.Murray played in all 17 games last season, throwing for 3,851 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes and posting a 93.5 passer rating. He also rushed for 572 yards and five scores.More news: Caleb Williams' WR Comments are Bad Sign for Bears RookieArizona actually contended for a playoff spot in 2024 and were even briefly in first place in the NFC West, but ultimately folded down the stretch.There is no doubt that the Cardinals have enough talent to make a postseason push this fall, so we'll see if Murray can deliver.For more on the Cardinals and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
