What a gem of a person Carlos Alcaraz is. He's a two-time defending Wimbledon Champion, he has two French Open titles, a US Open, and a Silver Medal at the Paris Olympics. He's dominated the best players in Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Rafael Nadal, and Alexander Zverev, among others. At 22, he's at the top of his game and is arguably the best player in the world right now, yet he remains extremely down to earth. Alcaraz's Wimbledon 2025 defense didn't get off to a smooth start as veteran Fabio Fognini pushed him to the limit in a five-set thriller. Fognini's efforts were commendable but not good enough to knock out the defending champion. At 33 degrees, it was the hottest Day 1 of Wimbledon in 148 years, and the heat was taking a toll on players and fans. Despite being involved in an intense match, Alcaraz's heartwarming effort for an elderly fan helped him get huge praise. Alcaraz noticed the elderly fan in distress and halted play for 15 minutes, pointing out the incident to the officials and handing over a water bottle to the fan. Later, after the match, the daughter of the elderly fan took to X to thank Alcaraz for his kind gesture. She said she doesn't expect Alcaraz to see the post, but still thanked her. Much to her surprise, she got a beautiful reply from Alcaraz. Meanwhile, Alcaraz will face Oliver Tarvet in the second round. Tarvet upset Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round. The Wimbledon 2025 has already seen several seeded players make an early exit. The likes of Alexander Zverev, Tsitsipas, Daniel Medvedev, Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, Alex Michelsen, Tallon Griekspoor, and Coco Gauff, among others, have already been knocked out of the tournament.
