A number of cars have been set alight at automotive repair businesses in Melbourne's south-east and west.
Emergency services were first called Melbourne Collision Repair Centre at the intersection of Nepean Highway and Swanston Street in Mentone following reports a car fire had spread to a business at about 3:20am on Wednesday.
Authorities were then called to another car repair shop by the same name in Triholm Avenue, Laverton, after reports multiple vehicles were set alight.
Melbourne Collision Repair Centre is owned by businessman David Deicke.
Police said a person was seen fleeing the Laverton incident while they were partially on fire.
Detectives said several people were seen smashing the windows of the cars before they were set alight and offenders were seen leaving the scene in a white vehicle.
Police are treating the car fires in Laverton and Mentone as suspicious and believe they are linked.
Anyone with information about the fires is urged to contact Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
